Eviction Filings and Defaults in Puerto Rico
During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a state-wide moratorium on evictions from March 16, 2020 to June 21, 2020.
The CDC moratorium was in place from September 4, 2020 through August 26, 2021.
Puerto Rico had a phased court reopening plan that permitted certain cases to resume hearings either in-person or remotely. Eviction cases resumed some hearings in phase two, beginning June 22, 2020. The territory moratorium dates presented here reflect the phases in which the courts were not hearing eviction cases before Federal moratoria went introduced.
